HELPFUL GUIDELINES
When planning a portrait session bear in mind where the enlargement will reside in your home. This may effect what clothing and what setting you choose. The personality of your family can really come through so choose carefully when making your decisions. Having trouble? Please call our studio and let us help.
Environmental portraiture always takes place approximately one hour before sunset. Mid-day light is often glaring and harsh, resulting in squinting eyes and bright skin. The evening light provides a soft warm glow that allows you to look your best. We recommend choosing only one or two solid theme colors for clothing such as denim or khaki and a complimentary color. The simplicity of your color choices will separate individuals from the background and maintain focus on the face. Take care to avoid all patterns so that the clothing is not the main focus in the photograph. So that the faces remain the central focus always wear long pants, skirts and long sleeved shirts so that the arms and legs are covered.
Studio portraiture can take place any hour of the day. It is up to you how formal or casual you want the end result to be. For example simple long sleeved black t-shirts with jeans can provide a casual setting that looks beautiful in color and in black and white. Formal coat and tie apparel provides a traditional look. When making clothing choices always strive to avoid clashing patterns and aim to wear long sleeves.
