The classic: neutral background, even light, head and shoulders. It is what most employers, boards and directories ask for, and it dates slowly.
Photographed in the Saint Petersburg studio, usually in well under an hour.
The conventions, and why they exist
Neutral background, even light, head and shoulders, eyes on the lens. It is the format most employers, boards, directories and professional bodies ask for, and it exists because it strips out everything except the person.
It also dates slowly. A traditional headshot taken well will still be usable in five years, which is not true of anything more stylised.
Backgrounds and crops
Background choice changes the feel more than people expect: light grey reads open and current, dark grey or black reads formal and weighty, white reads clean and is often what corporate style guides specify.
If you have been given a specification — a particular background, a particular crop, a file size — bring it and we will shoot to it rather than making you crop it later.
